A Premier League signing rarely excites me.
The last January signing that excited me was when West Brom signed Daniel Sturridge, and look how that one worked out.
But when Martin Odegaard penned a loan deal with Arsenal this week, it was a signing that genuinely excited me.
Since bursting onto the scene at Norwegian side Stromsgodset in 2014, Odegaard has widely been labelled as one of the best young players in the world.
After he came onto the scene there was a huge clamber from the world’s biggest, all desperate to get his signature.
Real Madrid won, but six years on he has made just eight appearances for the club.
Yet he is only 22, he has years ahead of him yet.
He comes to the Premier League with experience though, thanks to loan spells in Spain and Holland.
But many will still be waiting, waiting to see Odegaard on the big stage and to see what he is all about.
We were all lead to believe that he was going to take the world by storm when he came through in 2014.
However, you could argue he just hasn’t been given the chance.
This move to Arsenal represents a big chance.
There hasn’t been much to shout about for the Gunners fans this year, but I’m sure they are as excited by this signing as I am.
To begin with we just want to see what he has got and what he is all about.
I am sure the hype is justified and I am sure he will live up to it to some extent.
Surely all those big clubs seven years ago couldn’t be wrong could they?
Will he turn Arsenal’s dull season around? Probably not but he seems to be the Arsenal type of player.
He has nothing to lose and everything to gain from this move.
He is at the right club and hopefully he can show the world what Martin Odegaard is really all about.
